Formula 1 betting sites

Formula 1 is a sport where the fastest car wins most weekends, and the betting board knows it. The favorite is often short, the long shots rarely come in, and the value is mostly in the bets that ask a smaller question.

A field with a favorite

An F1 race has a field of about twenty cars, but most weekends only a few of them can win. So the race-winner board is short at the top and long everywhere else, and the cut across all those prices is much larger than on a two-way bet. The futures page explains how to add up a board like that. A championship future is the same thing over a whole season.

Head to head and the podium

The bets I'd look for are the head-to-head matchups, one driver against another, often two teammates who drive the same car. Dealt at something like -125 and +105, a matchup keeps about 4 percent of the money, close to a side in football. Podium and points-finish bets sit between the matchup and the outright. A book that deals plenty of head-to-heads, beyond the two front-runners, is a better F1 book than one with a long list of outright prices.

Qualifying and the grading

Many books deal qualifying as its own event, and the starting grid tells you a lot about the race. I'd read how the book grades a race result before betting it: whether it settles on the result as it stands on the day or after a later penalty, what happens to a matchup when a driver doesn't start or doesn't finish, and what happens if a race is cut short. Books differ on all of it. The house rules page covers what most books do.

Reading the list below

The list shows the books we have reviewed that name Formula 1 on their own sports pages, A to Z, and leaves out any whose review doesn't say. It is a short list, and a book may take F1 bets without its review saying so, so check the racing menu before you deposit for it. A season runs a long string of race weekends. I'd bet the head-to-heads I had a reason for, small, and keep the outright for the rare weekend when the favorite looked too short to me.
