Handicappers
A capper is someone who sells or gives away picks against the line. This section reviews those services so you can judge one before you pay it. We don't sell picks ourselves.
What a capper is selling
The short answer to what cappers are: handicappers who make their living from the pick, not the bet. Some of them are sharp. Many more are good at marketing, and I've always found the quickest way to tell them apart is to ask about their losers.
What each review looks at
Every review is built from the same parts, set out in our review methodology. It covers the sports the service picks, what it charges, how long it has been around and what the public record says about it. Then the numbers: the average odds the picks were given at, the units won and lost, and the recent run. Each review says which sources document the record and whether the picks were posted with a time before the games started, and it carries a caution wherever one is due.
A service whose record is checked against time-stamped picks, graded in the open, can earn the ATB Verified mark. The mark describes the record. It doesn't predict the next pick.
A hot streak proves nothing
At -110 a bettor has to win 52.38 percent just to break even. A coin-flipper who makes 20 picks goes 14 and 6 or better about 6 times in 100, and if 20 coin-flippers each post 20 picks, the odds are better than two in three that at least one of them looks like a genius. I'd want a few hundred documented picks before I believed any record, and even then I'd bet each one with the same small slice of my bankroll.
The free ones are covered under free picks.
