Bonuses and promos
A sportsbook promo is a price, not a present. The book pays you something up front and the terms say how much betting it wants back. Read the terms, put a number on them, and you'll know whether the offer is worth taking.
Five lines in the terms
The headline figure is the least useful part. These are the lines I'd read first, in this order.
The rollover. How many times you must bet the bonus, or the deposit plus the bonus, before you can withdraw. It decides nearly everything, because every dollar of the rollover is bet at the book's price and on average the vig on it comes out of the bonus before you see any of it. If the term is new to you, start with what a 20x rollover is, and the bonuses guide works an offer through at several rollovers.
Cash or free play. Win a bet made with a cash bonus and the stake comes back with the winnings. A free play pays only the winnings, so it is worth a good deal less than the same figure in cash. The page on cash and free play shows by how much.
Odds rules. Many offers only count bets at certain prices, often leaving out heavy favorites, and some leave out betting both sides of a game. If the bets you like don't count, the rollover is longer than it looks.
Maximum bet. A cap on your stake while the bonus is open. Go over it and the book can void the bonus and what you won with it.
The deadline. Divide the rollover by the days you are given. Say you have to bet $3,000 in 30 days: that is $100 every day, whether or not there is a game you like. If that is more than you would bet anyway, the promo is changing how you bet.
When I'd say no
I'd decline any promo with a rollover I wouldn't reach by betting the way I already do. I'd decline one that ties up my own deposit until the rollover is finished, if there is any chance I'll want the money back soon. And I'd decline anything I'd have to raise my stakes to qualify for. Most books let you turn a bonus down; ask before you deposit, not after.
Price matters more than any promo over a season. A book that deals -105 instead of -110 gives you something on every bet with no terms at all, and that is worth more to a regular bettor than most sign-up offers.
The reviews below list what each book offers. Read the terms on the book's own site before you take one, because offers change and the terms on the day are the ones that count. And set your bankroll first. A promo that makes you bet more than you planned has already cost you.
