Boxing betting sites

A boxing bet is decided as often by the book's rules as by the fight. A draw, a stoppage between rounds, a bout moved to another night: each has a rule, and the rule is written by the book. Choose a boxing book by its rules first and its prices second.

How the bets work, and the ways a fight ends, is on how to bet on boxing.

The fight line and the draw

The main bet is the fight line, a moneyline on each fighter. A big favorite at -300 is priced to win three times in four. What sets boxing apart is the draw. Some books deal the fight two ways and refund your bet on a draw. Others deal it three ways, with the draw as its own price, and then a bet on either fighter loses if the judges call it even. Those are different bets with different prices, and I'd know which one I was holding before I put money down.

Method and round

Below the fight line sits the menu the book likes better: the method of victory, the round a fight ends in, over or under a number of rounds. Each carries a bigger cut than the fight line, and the round bets depend on exactly how the book counts a half round and a stoppage between rounds. The props page explains how the cut on a menu like this adds up. I'd bet the method only when I had a reason to think the fight would end a particular way, and leave the exact round alone.

The rules that grade it

Before you deposit, read what the book does when the fight is postponed, when the scheduled number of rounds changes, when a fighter is replaced, and when the result is changed later by a commission. A good boxing book states all of it. One that doesn't is one you'll be arguing with. The house rules page covers what most books do.

Limits

A heavyweight title fight draws money from people who never bet boxing otherwise, and the books raise their limits for it. The undercard and smaller cards take much less, and the books move their numbers further on a smaller bet, because they know less about a fighter with a short record than the bettor who has followed him. That is where a boxing bettor's edge usually is, and where the book is quickest to cut the limit.

Reading the list below

The list shows the books we have reviewed that name boxing on their own sports pages, A to Z, and leaves out any whose review doesn't say. A fight card comes a few times a month at most, so there is no reason to bet one you don't know. Bet the fights you have studied, small, and let the big nights pass if you have nothing to say about them.
