Amatic: the Austrian machine maker online

Amatic is an Austrian manufacturer that builds slot cabinets, electronic roulette and casino systems for gaming floors, and puts its games online as well. Here is what the company says about itself, and where it says it.

An Austrian manufacturer

AMATIC Industries GmbH says on its company profile that it was "incorporated in 1993" and that "more than 90% of the production is made for export". Its legal notice gives the company's address in Rutzenmoos, Austria, and its entry in the Austrian commercial register, FN 33564i. The site doesn't say who owns the company, and I haven't found it said anywhere official, so it isn't here.

This is a different animal from a studio that only makes online games. Amatic's product pages run from cabinets and server-based video lottery terminals to jackpot systems, multiplayer electronic roulette and casino management systems. The online games are one line among them.

The games

The slot games page is long, and it reads like a machine maker's catalog: Blazing Bells 20, Double Joker 20, Hot Fruits Wheel 10, Wild Anubis, Cash & Crab, Pharaos Gold 20 and Pharaos Gold 100. There are video poker and table titles too, from Jacks Or Better and Deuces Wild to baccarat, sic bo and blackjack.

Fruit, bells and jokers: it's the look of a machine on a floor, and I'd say it suits a player who wants a spin without a story. The look says nothing about the price, which is set game by game. So I'd read the return in the help screen before I played, as the RTP guide explains, and if a game has a jackpot attached, the jackpots guide says where that money comes from.

Online, as the company describes it

The online gaming page calls the range AMATIC Online and gives it as "250+ games", an "HTML5 portfolio for desktop and mobile", developed "mobile-first". It says the games are "available across 15+ regulated jurisdictions" and that one integration gives a casino both AMATIC Online and a second content line called WILDCAT. It names Lucky Joker, Hot Fruits and Lucky Piggies as examples.

It doesn't name the 15 jurisdictions, and the site doesn't mention random number generator testing or a testing lab. Online, that is the part I care about most, because it's how a regulator knows the return on the help screen is the return you get. I'd want to see it stated. Amatic may well hold the certifications; I just couldn't find them on its site.

Licences we could confirm

The site lists no licences. We found one at the regulator. The UK Gambling Commission's register shows Amatic Industries GmbH, account 47992, with an active remote licence for gambling software since 27 April 2017. It gives the head office as Gmunden, Austria, a different town from the address on the company's own legal notice.

That's what we could see. A software licence in Great Britain means Amatic may supply games to casinos licensed there. It doesn't tell you anything about the other 15-plus markets the company mentions, or about where you live.

Where you'll find it

Of the casinos we have reviewed, Bookie.ag Casino shows Amatic games among its own. Whether you can play for money depends on where you live. If you play the machines, in a building or on a phone, decide what you can lose before you start. The responsible gambling page is there when it's needed.
