Advertising on AskTheBookie: who can, and the rules
You'll see advertising on this site. Every ad is marked, every advertiser has passed our checks, and none of them can buy a better review or a higher place in the directory.
Verified companies only
A company can advertise here only while it holds a current verified status, and only where its ads are allowed for the readers who'll see them. A listing on its own isn't enough. If a company's verification lapses, or a serious concern about it comes up, its advertising stops.
Fixed fees, nothing tied to what you lose
Ads are sold at a fixed price for an agreed period or package of placements. We take no commission on players we send, no share of what anyone deposits, bets or loses, and nothing that grows when a reader does badly. The how we earn page sets out the whole model.
Where ads appear, and how they rotate
An ad runs in its own category: a sportsbook's ad on sportsbook reviews and directory pages, a pay-per-head shop's in the pay-per-head directory and the articles around it. Advertisers buying the same placement share it evenly, each getting the same turn. Every ad is labelled Advertisement or Sponsored. If you can't tell an ad from our own words, we've done it wrong.
What advertising can't buy
This is the part I'd want spelled out if I were reading a review site, so here it is.
- A review, or anything in it.
- A rating, or a higher one.
- A better place in the directory's own order.
- A say in what we write. Advertisers have no authority to edit a review or move a score.
What we turn down
We reject ads with misleading promotions. A bonus whose terms take back what the headline gives is the usual one, and I'd turn it down even if the book behind it were spotless. We can refuse any ad, for any reason. An advertiser gets reports of how often its ad was shown and clicked, never anything that depends on how its players did.
