Cary, NC (SportsNetwork.com) – UCLA claimed its first women’s soccer title on
Sunday, beating Florida State, 1-0, behind Kodi Lavrusky’s strike in the
seventh minute of overtime at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The Bruins came close to breaking the deadlock multiple times in regulation as
Taylor Smith hit the crossbar at the half-hour mark and the post just before
halftime.
Extra time was needed to find a winner and UCLA rose to the occasion early on
when Megan Oyster made a surging run from the back and slipped a superb
through ball for Lavrusky’s run against the grain. The midfielder took one
touch to settle and made no mistake with the finish, slotting a shot past the
un-rushing Kelsey Wys.
The Bruins finish the season with a record of 22-1-3, suffering their lone
loss of the season on Sept. 6 against North Carolina.
