Gonzaga is set for revenge; tonight’s game is a grudge match and count on the “Zags” wanting this one worse than ever. Florida State had better show up big and for one reason, Mark Few has a long memory. Losing last years Sweet 16 game to these very Seminoles has stuck in the craw of not only the players, but Few, as well.
Game: Florida State Seminoles (29-7 17-19 ATS) Vs. Gonzaga Bulldogs (32-3, 22-13 ATS)
When: 7:09 PM ET Thursday, March 28th, 2019
Where: Honda Center, Anaheim, California
Current Line: GONZ -8 Total: 148
What you must remember about this matchup vs. last season is this… Killian Tillie (starting center) was out last year, he did not play. This year he is playing, and he will have a huge impact and he will be a difference maker.
Tillie is obviously a difference maker, and anybody who has watched this team play over the course of the season knows his impact, however, this team has weapons and the real difference this year has been the exceptional play of Brandon Clarke.
Clarke is the NCAA leader in field goal percentage at 69.9% and is a defensive force with 3.1 blocks per game. Clarke poured in 36 points against Baylor along with eight rebounds and five blocks! The man is a beast!
Head coach Mark Few’s comments on last year’s matchup…
“A crushing blow to us, emotionally when the team found out in warmups that Tillie couldn’t go. Florida State was really good that night. I don’t know if we could have beaten them with Killian, but I know he would have really, really helped.”
Gonzaga is still leading the nation with 88.6 points per game and they are still playing fantastic defense, allowing 60.0 points per game. The Seminoles are scoring 75.4 points per game and allowing 65.5, while shooting 44.4% from the field along with 37.6 rebounds, 12.9 assists, and 4.3 blocks per game.
Gonzaga is outshooting the Seminoles 53.2%-44.4%, grabbing 38.9 rebounds and a whopping 18.3 assists per game, while averaging 5.5 blocks, and 7.5 steals per game.
We have another free pick for the 2019 Sweet 16.
There is no questioning the numbers. The Bulldogs win every category and win some of them by a fairly large margin. There is no questioning their heart and their desire, they will be tough to beat tonight, and they have the luxury of playing on the west coast.
Finding a path to victory for the Seminoles is a tough one, we don’t see it. Florida State has put up a nice run and played valiantly, that run ends tonight.
Sweet 16 Free Pick: Gonzaga -8
