I sure hope I’m not the only one hurting today, is it just me that drinks more when football is on? But I’m thankful that things are getting back to the way they should be. Today I’m on the search for betting value in my Reds Cardinals free pick.
Game: Cincinnati Reds (19-25, 16-28 RL) at St. Louis Cardinals (19-18, 19-18 RL)
When: 8:15 PM ET, Friday, September 11th, 2020
Where: Busch Stadium, St. Louis, MO
Current Line: CIN -130 STL +110 Total: 7.5
Probable Pitchers: Luis Castillo (1-5, 3.95 ERA) vs. Adam Wainwright (4-0, 2.68 ERA)
TV Coverage: FS-O, FS-M
With just a couple weeks left before the 2020 MLB Playoffs in this abbreviated season, this is a big game between two NL Central rivals.
Splits Tell All
Adam Wainwright takes the mound for the home squad. The 39-year-old hurler is having a great season at 4-0 with a 2.68 ERA and a minuscule WHIP of 0.92. He has gone 6 or more innings in all but 1 of his 6 starts, giving up 2 or less runs in all but 1 as well.
Taking the bump for the Reds is Luis Castillo. After going 15-8 with a 3.40 ERA last year, he’s struggled to a 1-5 record so far in 2020. On top of that, his 1.48 WHIP is a great indication of the amount of hitters he’s allowing to reach base.
If you’re not already sensing the direction of my Reds Cardinals free pick, here a few more hints.
The Reds haven’t exactly been road warriors, winning only 11 of their 25 road games. Castillo’s splits also show he’s not enjoying the road. He’s 1-4 in his 5 road starts with a 4.44 ERA.
Wainwright has always loved pitching at home, and threw a complete game 4 hit gem his last time at Busch Stadium against the Indians.
The wrong team is favored here today. My money is on the home underdog at +110.
