There’s a lot to talk about in this one when the Philadelphia Flyers host the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night. In a two-week span, the Flyers fired General Manager Ron Hextall and most recently, fired coach Dave Hakstol, a move made official yesterday.

The Flyers currently have 28 points, the fewest in the Eastern Conference, with only the Blackhawks (26) and Kings (25) having less over in the West. In an attempt to shake things up, the Flyers called up their top goalie prospect Carter Hart, and is expected to get his first NHL start in this one.

We have another Free Pick today in our weekly Dogs Ready to Bite the Books series. Check out Dave’s pick in the Lakers at Nets matchup tonight.

Although the Wings are sitting near the bottom of the East themselves, with 33 points, they have surprised some by their gritty play and improved defense. Center Dylan Larkin has taken a huge step in his development and is now the leader of Hockeytown. Larkin leads his team in goals (14), points (32), penalty minutes (37), shorthanded goals (2), has 32 more shots (123) than 2 others tied for second and only defenseman Mike Green is logging more ice time, wit Larkin averaging 21:39 minutes on the ice per game.

I recently read an article on how teams step up their game when a new coach takes the reigns. They feel a renewed since of life and bring their A-game every shift. I expect this to be the case tonight, but don’t count out the Wings, who have lost 3 in a row and 6 of their last 8.

With the combination of Hart getting his first start, a new coach behind the bench for the Flyers and the Wings desperate for a win, I expect plenty of pucks to find the back of the net, and despite the 6.5 total, OVER is my call for this one.
