NHL Free Pick | Golden Knights vs. Capitals

The Golden Knights had a dream season in 2017-18. To say the season was beyond stellar and everything the franchise could have hoped for, is a wild understatement. Tonight’s game features the Stanley Cup Finals rematch which of course, we all know that the Capitals won in five games. The Knights seems to have run out of gas last season against a team of destiny. The Capitals were good, but nothing special. They certainly have some great individual players such as Ovechkin and others but to have predicted a Stanley Cup run and to predict the Capitals to hoist the trophy; who can say they made that prediction?

The Golden Knights are 1-2-0 to start this young season and they are not looking anything like themselves, but then again, who are they? We know the team has talent, they have an eclectic mix of young and old and the old is what helped them to a dream season last year. The old can’t keep doing it forever, this team needs the young guys to step up and play championship level hockey. So far-not so good!

On Monday night, the Knights lost to the Buffalo Sabres in a 4-2 game that featured Vegas putting the screw to Buffalo’s shots on goal by a wide margin of 37-17. Now that is brilliant, stellar, superb, really, one can’t say enough about that effort but in this effort, they were outscored 4-2! How does that happen, the outcome of this game was nothing but stunning.

Knights forward Max Pacioretty had this to say… “You know, we limited them to a low number of shots, however, the shots that they did get were Grade A opportunities. We can’t leave our goaltender out to dry like that.”

He is absolutely right. This was all about what happened at the goal and the Knights are not living up to the task thus far in this young season. Can they rebound? Absolutely they can, this team swept the LA Kings on their way to the finals last season, they can certainly rebound from this slow start and pick up the pace.

Vegas is failing to take care of the power play and that will kill any hockey team in the NHL. They are off to a paltry start at 0-8. If this continues, they will continue losing.

Knights Head Coach Gerald Galant said this of the Capitals… “They’re the Stanley Cup champs we look at this game (Wednesday) night, it’s a big challenge for our group so we’ll get ready to play them. We know them, they know us real well, so hopefully it’ll be a good game and we’d like to come out on top.”

Washington has had five days rest and enter this contest at 1-0-1. They come off the road after losing a contest in OT to Pittsburgh, 7-6. The Caps can score! They will get there’s against the Knights and could run away with this one.

Prediction: Capitals 5-2
