NHL Free Pick | Golden Knights at Islanders
This season in the NHL is shaping up to be interesting and if the Golden Knights want to be counted, they had better step up now. The time is now and there isn’t a better place to grab a road victory than in Long Island over the Islanders.
The mystique of the Knights is long over, that ship has clearly sailed! This team has struggled in the early going and getting back to a resemblance of their “Cinderella selves” has been a battle to say the least.
The Islanders are still their same old struggling selves. They take one step forward and two steps back. This team never seems to get over the proverbial hump. That could change tonight with the possible play of goalie Robin Lehner.
The Islanders are 14-11-4 overall with 32 points on the season. The Knights come into this contest with a 17-14-1 overall record and 35 points.
The Knights are scoring 2.97 goals per game (17th) and allowing 2.81 (9th), they are 19.4% in the power play (16th) and 83.2% in penalty kill (7th). The Knights must do a better job converting power play opportunities into goals. This is literally killing them. Their penalty kill percentage is fantastic and they are playing much better defense as of late.
The Knights started the season with high hopes after an amazing and record breaking first year that lead to the Stanley Cup Finals against the Washington Capitals, however, they couldn’t sustain the momentum from last season and started the season off losing four of the first five games. They did pick up 3 straight wins on October 13th @ Philadelphia, October 16th over Buffalo and October 20th over Anaheim. Until November 21st, the team has been up and down, but won five straight on the 21st, 23rd, 24th, 27th and 29th.
The Knights come in tonight having won 3 of 5 and look to shut down the hapless Islanders. The Knights are figuring things out defensively.
