UCF has not lost a game since December 17th, 2016 when they lost the AutoNation Cure Bowl against Arkansas State. That seems like a lifetime ago and for all intent and purpose, it was. What UCF has done since has been downright historical and nothing less than amazing, especially considering they are a small school that came from nowhere.
Now this group is facing a new challenge, they are going against Memphis without their star quarterback McKenzie Milton, who put up 2663 yards, along with 25 TDs with just 6 INTs. He is out. That hurts.
Freshman QB, Darriel Mack Jr. gets the start against Memphis and he has no numbers whatsoever. His entire college career consists of 174 passing yards, 0 TDs and 0 INTs. He has 21 completions on 43 attempts and a long of 47 yards, not bad for the long but beyond this, who knows?
Memphis comes into this battle with an 8-4 record and they put up big points, to the tune of 43.8 per game and allow 29.5 per game. The Knights are scoring 43.1 points per game and allowing 19.5. The defense certainly favors the Knights and this team can shut people down when they take a mind to doing so.
It’s almost that time of year again – getting ready to bet the NFL Playoffs
Memphis comes in having won 4 straight and they have pounded the rock and scored a ton of points. In their last 4 wins, they have put up 52 over Houston, 28 on SMU, 47 on Tulsa, and 59 on ECU. The strength of schedule is tit for tat in this matchup and sooner or later someone is going to have the Knights number. Today just might be that day without the help of their star quarterback.
However, Milton may have good numbers, but those numbers don’t blow anybody away, especially considering strength of schedule. It’s not as if they have an Oklahoma, Clemson or Alabama schedule! This UCF team wins on the strength of their defense and they will need to do it today.
