NCAA Free Pick - Colorado vs. #15 Washington
The Washington Huskies are a tough minded football team with the nations leading rusher- Myles Gaskin, and they lost last week to Oregon! This was their second loss of the season and they come into the Colorado game laying -17 ½. Their first loss was their first game of the season to Auburn and it was a thriller but once again, the SEC proved their dominance. The Huskies were favored in that game by -1.5 but came up short in a 21-16 final.
The Huskies have since gone on to rattle off five wins in a row with one of them coming by way of a 45-3 victory over North Dakota, which absolutely means nothing. They probably should have beat North Dakota by much more than they did. North Dakota managed to hold Gaskin to less than 60 yard rushing and that was key to much less of a blowout then it could have been. The one standout game the Huskies have played was the 35-7 win over #20 BYU. That’s a smackdown considering that BYU is ranked.
Colorado is playing very good football and although their schedule is significantly less difficult than Washington’s, their record still merits honorable mention with wins over Nebraska, UCLA and ASU. The Buffalos score a lot of points and they can put it up in a hurry. Washington on the other hand plays very solid defense and are only allowing 16 ppg.
Colorado will need to bring their “A” game for this matchup and it’s very unlikely that they will get a win against Chris Petersen’s crew, however, -17.5 is a lot of point to put up against a PAC 12 opponent. This is Colorado, not Oregon State. Montez is a big gamer and he will get his yards. With 15 TD’s against just 3 INT’s and close to 1600 yards, he is a legitimate threat.
This game has the earmarks of a close one and probably fairly low scoring. The thought here is more of a defensive effort that says run, run, run and how effective can Colorado’s passing game be? In the end, it goes under 49 ½ and Colorado keeps it within 17.
Colorado +17 ½
Under 49 ½
