MNF Free Pick - San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers

The San Francisco 49ers are on a Monday Night Football roll and have been for 9 straight games, The Niners come into Monday night on a 9 game Monday night winning streak and an NFL record, 48 Monday night wins. Can the 1-4 Niners, keep the streak alive against the 2-2 Packers in Lambeau field? If it were not for an injury riddled 49ers squad, maybe they could make some noise against an underachieving Green Bay Packers.

The Niners have been hit hard with injuries, making competitiveness extremely doubtful. Where do we start? The list is long… Let’s start with starting quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and the team’s best running back Jerick McKinnon, the two offensive wheels that every team must have in order to beat anybody. They are out along with eight offensive players in total including left tackle Joe Staley, Center Weston Richburg, right guard Mike Person, along with three receivers, Pierre Garcon, Trent Taylor, and Dante Pettis. The Niners are really going to the well this week with running back Matt Breida out along with tight end George Kittle. Breida is a game-time decision with an ankle injury. They need him, they need anybody at this point.

“I know we’ve been through some adversity, I know this is the hand that we’ve been dealt and I think we have the people in our organization, I think we have the players, I think we have strong enough people who can deal with it and man up and find a way to win. It’s never easy. It definitely gets harder when you do have injuries and things like that. But we have people in here who can win games.”

(49ers Head Coach Kyle Shanahan)

The Packers are struggling and if there ever was a time to take advantage of a teams woes, it’s this game for the 49ers. Rodgers is wearing a knee brace and battling through what should be late season aches and pains. Is Aaron Rodgers aging right before our eyes? Quarterbacks take a beating in Green Bay, they always have. Brett Favre took a beating there and somehow survived as one of the greatest players of all time. Rodgers is still one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and anytime he is under center, he gives his team a chance, but he is not healthy and in reality, he probably needs to sit out until he is healthy. The Packers can’t afford any losses in the NFC North they simply can’t. They had better hope that Rodgers can find a way through this and get to at least 90% the rest of the way or they are in trouble.

What matters in this game is the strength of the road team. Can an injury depleted team without their starting quarterback and running back find a way to compete against the likes of even a 75% Aaron Rodgers? Highly, highly doubtful. Extremely doubtful. Can the Packers cover 9? Yes, they can and they will. The Niners are too banged up, the streak stops tonight.

There are two ways in which to approach this game. One, you can bet against the Flyers, they have been pretty bad this year and they seem to have lost their heart completely. The other glaring reason to bet against them would simply have to be their record against the spread, it’s an abysmal-15-29. They Read More…
