MNF Free Pick | Saints at Panthers
The Carolina Panthers have come a very long way since playing the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning in Super Bowl 50, and unfortunately, they have come a long way in the wrong direction.
This team is reeling after five straight losses to the Steelers, Lions, Seahawks, Buccaneers and the Browns. Just how miserable are things when a team loses to the Bucs, Browns and Lions, in the same season?

With respect to the Panthers, they did open the season up with a very nice win over the Dallas Cowboys, holding them to 8 points, but followed that with a week two loss against the Falcons, they went on to pick up two wins over the Bengals and the Giants. They then lost to the Redskins and then won three in a row, against the Eagles, Ravens and Buccaneers. The first half of the season was a success, at 6-2, who would have argued against this team making a playoff run?
Now the tide has turned for this team and they need a win desperately. This game against the Saints is a “must win” or for all intent and purpose, they will miss the playoffs. The Saints are not the ideal opponent when facing a “must win”, but then again, nobody has been the ideal opponent for the last five weeks. The Steelers game was a blowout, 52-21, the other four straight losses were all reasonably close.

In the NFL, in nearly every game… football is played right on the edge of winning and losing. It’s a game of inches and sometimes the ball bounces in your court and sometimes it doesn’t. The Panthers are not terrible all of a sudden and they still have playmakers in Newton and McCaffrey. Other than against Pittsburgh, they were close in all of them.
The Saints are going to be hard to beat, they are scoring 34.4 points per game and allowing 21.8, while the Panthers are scoring 24.9 points per game and allowing 25.5. The problem is not that the Panthers are not good enough to win, the problem is that the Saints are better and will get this victory.
