It’s mid-August, and the MLB 2019 Playoff picture is beginning to take shape. Rosters will be expanding in a couple weeks, and the whole landscape of baseball will change. The contenders won’t change much, except for seeing new faces in a blowout or spelling a regular once in a while. It can be a great time to bet OVERs and watching live betting total lines.

I might get into why I like OVERs and live betting lines this time of year in a future article, or maybe I’ll just bet them. However, I’m not picking a total tonight.
Reds / Nats. Wood / Ross.
The Nationals are 6 games back in their division from a Braves team that quietly has 70 wins, and lead the NL Wild Card standings. Cincinnati are 7.5 back from the Cubs, and 5.5 out of a Wild Card spot, but have 5 teams between the playoffs. Three of those teams include the Brewers, Phillies and Mets.
Joe Ross has worked out of the pen most of the season, getting his first action as a starter on July 21st. He lost his first two starts, but has allowed a total of 4 hits and no runs in his last two. He’s gone 11.1 innings in those starts, striking out 8. He does need to find his command, but it looked better in his last start.
Alex Wood is a Dodger castaway, and spent basically the entire season on the IL with a back injury. This will be his 4th start since coming back, and is 1-0 with a 5.65 ERA, striking out 11 and walking 3.
The Cubs knocked him around his last time out, giving up 5 earned on 8 hits, lasting only 3 innings.
The Nats are 32-25 at home, the Reds are 23-33 on the road. The Nationals have won 13 of their last 15 against the Reds. I’m paying the -120 for the favorite in this one.
