Game: Pittsburgh Pirates (23-20, 23-20 ATS) at San Diego Padres (23-23, 21-25 ATS)

When: 4:10 PM ET, Sunday, May 19th, 2019

Where: Petco Park, San Diego, California

Current Line: PIT -102 SD -108 Total: 8

TV Coverage: AT&T SportsNet-Pittsburgh, FS San Diego

Probable Pitchers: Joe Musgrove (2-4, 3.59 ERA) vs. Cal Quantrill (0-1, 3.60 ERA)

I’ve been on the Pirates a few times the past couple weeks, including Musgroves’ last start on Tuesday, a 6-2 win in Arizona as a +145 dog. They’re not that big of a dog this afternoon in SD at -102, but are a dog nonetheless.

After winning 5 in a row mid-April, then losing 8 straight to follow that stretch, the Pirates are 11-6 including the last 2 in SD after losing the first one.

Musgrove was showing top-end stuff to start the season, not allowing an earned run in his first 15.1 innings. He followed that up allowing only 6 earned over 19.2 innings in his next 3 starts, but then he started taking on water allowing 5 and 8 earned in his next two starts, respectively. He righted the ship in his last start, the aforementioned 6-2 win in Arizona here he allowed 1 hit, no runs with 2 walks and 5 K’s in 7 strong.

Young Cal Quantrill takes the mound for the Friars, who has 2 starts to his credit so far this season. It’s actually pitched quite well, allow 2 earned runs in each start, striking out 8 and walking 3 over 10 innings.

The Pirates enjoy playing in San Diego, where they’ve won 5 of their last 7. Expect Musgrove to put in a quality start, helping Pittsburgh to the W.
