MLB Free Pick | Giants at Diamondbacks | Aug. 18, 2019
I dipped into this series on Friday night, and although it didn’t come easy, I took the Giants +126 for the win. The Giants had a 7-2 lead going into the bottom of the 8th, only to allow 5 runs in the bottom of the 8th. Neither team scored in the 9th, both scored two in the 10th. In the 11th, the Giants had one cross the plate and held the D’backs scoreless in the bottom for the dramatic 10-9 win!
Game: San Francisco Giants (63-61, 65-59 ATS) at Arizona Diamondbacks (61-63, 68-56 ATS)
When: 4:10 PM ET, Sunday, August 18th, 2019
Where: Chase Field, Phoenix, Arizona
America’s Bookie Current Line: SF -104 ARI -106 Total: 9.5
TV Coverage: NBCS Bay Area, FS Arizona
Probable Pitchers: Giants LH Madison Bumgarner (8-7, 3.63 ERA) vs. Diamondbacks RH Merrill Kelly (8-12, 4.75 ERA)
A 4-game sweep on the road is difficult, but that’s what I’m betting on today. MadBum takes the mound for the Giants, and his recent form has been MadBum-like.
Bumgarner had a rough stretch of 3 starts the end of July where he gave up 3, 4 and 5 runs. With those 3 starts aside, he has allowed 2 or less runs in every start since June 25th, a span that includes 7 starts.
In 26 starts this year, Bumgarner has allowed 3 earned runs or less in 18 of them. He’s 2-0 in his last 2 starts, going 14 innings of 1 run ball, allowing just 3 hits while striking out 12 and issuing only 1 walk. The D’backs current lineup is only hitting .145 against him.
The same cannot be said for D’backs starter Merrill Kelly. In his last 4 starts, he has allowed 7, 7, 3 and 6 runs, respectively. Although he’s 1-1 with a 2.76 ERA vs. the Giants this year, Brandon Belt, Alex Dickerson, Evan Longoria and Buster Posey have all had success against him.
As I said earlier, I like the Giants to win and complete the sweep, but y’all know I’m always looking for value. I am going with the Giants 1st 5 innings (1H) Run Line -0.5+123.
MLB Free Pick: Giants 1st 5 innings (1H) Run Line -0.5+123
