MLB Free Pick | Braves at Phillies
Is it just me or has this MLB Opening Week been a lot more exciting than those in recent memory? Big names in new places, adjustments to the shift, big scores and pitching gems. And we’re only 3 games in! Can you tell I’m a baseball fan? My pick is coming from tonight’s ESPN broadcast of Sunday Night Baseball, where it’s sure to be electric.
Game: Atlanta Braves (0-2, 0-2 ATS) at Philadelphia Phillies (2-0, 2-0 ATS)
When: 7:05 PM ET, Sunday, March 31st, 2019
Where: Citizens Bank Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Current Line: PHI -142 Total: 8.5
TV Coverage: ESPN
It’s the young versus old when looking at the matchup on the bump tonight, but the overall landscape of both teams gives a picture of two teams that could be battling it out in the playoffs come October.
23-year-old Kyle Wright takes the mound for his first Major League start for the Braves, while the wile veteran Jake Arrieta will start for the Phillies, 10 years Wright’s senior.
The Phillies big acquisition this offseason, Bryce Harper, went deep for the first time in a Phillies uni yesterday, and was ALREADY being serenaded to MVP chants from the Philly faithful. (Take it easy)
While Wright may be forced into this start due to injuries to Mike Foltynewicz and Kevin Gausman, he more than earned the start, showing big league stuff with a plus fastball, two breaking pitches and a changeup. He needs to command his pitches better, but that will come.
Arrieta is a good pitcher, but his better days are behind him. He started the 2018 season well, but faded towards the end, registering only one win in his final 10 starts. He allowed 4 or more runs in 6 of those starts.
This is going to be a great game to close out the first weekend of baseball, and I’m going with the Braves in a close one. I can’t see that squad going 0-3.

Yu Darvish takes the mound against 7-1 Walker Buehler, and the last time that Darvish took the mound in Chavez Ravine, was in Dodger Blue. We would love to say what a difference a year and a half makes, a fresh start, a new team, a new lease on life; wrong! For Darvish nothing has Read More…
