MLB Free Pick | Astros at Athletics – June 1
The Oakland Athletics are the surprise of the west and basically, they can beat anybody. What they bring to the table is old fashioned baseball with sound fundamentals that include a solid defenses, better than average pitching and a bullpen that could use some help, but most bullpens around the league could use some help. In fact, most need a lot of help.
Game: Houston Astros (38-20, 30-28 ATS) at Oakland Athletics (29-28, 28-29 ATS)
When: 10:07 PM ET, Saturday, June 1st, 2019
Where: Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum, Oakland, California
Current Line: HOU -149 OAK +139 Total: 8
TV Coverage: MLB Network, AT&T SportsNet-Southwest, NBCS California
Probable Pitchers: Justin Verlander (8-2, 2.38 ERA) vs. Brett Anderson (6-3, 3.86 ERA)
The good news for the A’s, they can win every series through the 7th of July with exception of Tampa, whom they meet twice. They are just above .500 now but come July, this team could be well over .500 and still in contention.
They are not going to catch the Astros, we are not here to say this Oakland team is some buzz saw that has caught lightning in a bottle and they will be the 2015 Royals. Not a chance. This team is talented, and they could be well worth betting on down the stretch. They for sure have been a great bet over the last 10 games.
The Astros are once again a great baseball team and Justin Verlander is once again a great pitcher. No matter who the Astros roll out to the mound, they seem to strike gold. This team can pitch, hit, run, throw, and they can play pretty darn good defense. The team WHIP is 1.06 and they are hitting .274. They outduel Oakland in nearly every category.
Baseball is different from most sports. In baseball there is a ridiculously long schedule and even the very best teams in the game will lose 50-60 games. The Astros are no exception, and the rule in baseball is to play the percentages. Oakland has lost a couple including these very Astros, can they rebound and hit well against Verlander? Maybe, but probably not. Verlander is not lights out as he once was but he is still very good and betting against him is risky.
I love the Oakland run line at +1.5-135. Brett Anderson keeps this affair close enough to maybe even pick up the win. But play this one safe and bet the +1.5.
MLB Free Pick: Oakland A’s RL +1.5-135
