Maple Leafs Oilers Pick, Preview & Odds

The Edmonton Oilers host the Toronto Maple Leafs tonight in NHL action. We’re bringing you some betting action with a Maple Leafs Oilers pick.

Toronto lead the North Division with 14 points. They come into this game on a four-game winning streak. Edmonton are near the bottom of the division with just six points.

The Oilers come into this game on a two-game losing streak.

When: Saturday, January 30th, 2021, 7:00PM ET

Where: Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta

Line: Maple Leafs (-120) vs. Oilers (+109) Total: 6.5

TV Coverage: NHL Network, SportsNet

These two teams just played on Thursday night and the Leafs won (4-3). Leon Draisaitl scored two goals, but it wasn’t enough. Jason Spezza and Wayne Simmonds both scored for the Leafs.

It was Spezza’s first goal of the season, but Simmonds now has three goals.

It’s the young guys that have been dominating for Toronto, though. Mitch Marner leads the team in assists (8) and points (13). Both Marner and Auston Matthews have scored five goals each. A look at the updated 2021 Stanley Cup futures gives a positive outlook for Leaf fans (again).

Thirteen players on the Leafs have 3+ points already this season. When you’re getting production from multiple lines like the Leafs are, it makes them extremely tough to defeat.

Point Differential

Toronto rank #9 in goals scored (3.3 GPG) and #15 in goals against (2.8 GA/G).

It’s the Connor McDavid and Draisaitl show in Edmonton again this year. McDavid (5G/9A) leads the team with 14 points, while Draisaitl is second on the team with 13 points (6G/7A).

As a team, the Oilers are scoring 2.9 GPG (16th) and allowing 3.7 GA/G (27th).

This will be the fourth head-to-head meeting this season. The Leafs are 2-1 in the season series up to this point. With the Oilers defensive troubles, I’m banking on another Leafs win.

Maple Leafs Oilers Pick

Another reason I like the Leafs to win tonight and my Maple Leafs Oilers pick is because of their powerplay. Both of the Leafs third period goals against Edmonton on Thursday came on the powerplay.

Toronto rank #2 on the powerplay this season (42.9%) and the Oilers rank #23 on the penalty-kill (72.4%). I also like goals in this game, but I will rarely ever bet a total north of six goals.

You need too much to go right to hit seven goals. The Leafs ML offers better value and an easier path to cashing. Jump on the Leafs and ride the hot start, as they’re bound to blow it.
