Joyner fined $23K for hit on Bridgewater
NEW YORK (AP) St. Louis cornerback Lamarcus Joyner was fined $23,152 by the NFL on Friday for his hit that left Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater with a concussion.
Joyner made shoulder-first contact on Bridgewater, who returned to practice Thursday after his head hit hard against the turf early in the fourth quarter Sunday. Bridgewater is expected to start Sunday at Oakland.
Tennessee linebacker David Bass was docked $17,363 on Friday for a hit to the jaw of New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, who needed stitches. Bass was penalized for roughing-the-passer on the play.
Denver safety T.J. Ward was fined $17,363 for a hit on Indianapolis wide receiver T.Y. Hilton – and $5,787 for having his jersey untucked, a uniform violation.
Carolina cornerback Josh Norman was also fined $5,787 for a uniform-related infraction. Norman wore cleats last Sunday with the words ”proud” and ”brave” printed on them as part of the league’s ”Salute to Service” promotion. Players are not permitted to write messages on their equipment.
Carolina’s Roman Harper was docked $8,681 for unnecessary roughness. He was penalized for tossing Green Bay tight end Richard Rodgers to the ground after shoving him out of bounds.
Philadelphia wide receiver Jordan Matthews was fined $5,787 for tossing a football into the stands against Dallas. Players are permitted to hand balls to fans after plays, but can’t throw them into the stands because it can become a safety issue as fans try to pursue the ball.
