Dodgers Braves Free Pick | 2020 NLCS Game 5

I’m never afraid to say I was wrong, and I was wrong about the Braves. I’ll explain why before I get to my Dodgers Braves free pick. When Soroka went down for the year, Cole Hamels pitched all of 3.1 innings in 2020 and Mike Foltynewicz was designated for assignment, I said the Braves didn’t have a chance to win the World Series. Boy was I wrong!

It is 2020

You’d think I’d have learned my lesson to doubt the Braves, but I just can’t see the Dodgers rolling over. I know the 2020 has been anything but ordinary, but coming into the season, I thought the Dodgers HAD to win the World Series this year. Didn’t they?

May vs. the Opener

Dustin May is scheduled to start this win-or-go-home game for LA. May has pitched only 4.2 innings in 3 appearances so far in this postseason. He started only 1 of those appearances, as an opener, going 1 innings against the Padres in Game 3 to help with the sweep. Gingergard may not be key to today’s Dodgers Braves free pick, but he should have an impact.

May has yet to give up a run this postseason, allowing only 1 hit and issuing 1 walk in his 4.2 innings. He has 6 Ks in that time.

A.J. Minter will act as the opener for the Braves. It will be Minter’s first opener assignment in his career. He has thrown 2.1 innings so far this postseason, including 2/3 of an inning versus the Dodgers in Game 2. Minter gave up a 416-foot 3-run home run to Corey Seager in that outing. Seager’s blast made the score 7-3, giving the Dodgers some hope in that one.

The Braves will piece together the bullpen following Minter as they try to get to the World Series.

The Dodgers won Game 3 15-3 but lost the other 3 games by a total score of 23-10. This includes last night’s 10-2 Braves win. I expect the Dodgers to go down swinging (pun intended).

My money was going to be on the Los Angeles Dodgers to win tonight and force a Game 6. But after the line was released following the announcement that Minter will start, I am going with the Dodgers on the Run Line at -1.5-135
