Betting the Sweet 16 at the Top Online Sportsbooks

The smoke has finally cleared from the first few rounds of this year’s NCAA Tournament. While most bettor’s brackets are probably busted given the number of huge upsets that took place in last week’s games, it is time to start focusing your full attention on this week’s action on the board in the Sweet 16 Round of this year’s Big Dance.

With four games on Thursday and four more on Friday, this is the last big wave of betting action for college basketball this season. There are four more games on this weekend’s slate in the Elite 8 before the region champs move onto San Antonio for the Final Four Round on Saturday, March 31 followed by the national title game on Monday, April 2.

All the top online sportsbooks are gearing up for the Sweet 16 with any number of ways to bet on the games. Here are a few ways that offer the best value in the betting odds.

Head-to-Head Matchups

Trying to correctly pick the winners across four regions in a bracket challenge can be hard to do. We have already seen quite a few of the top seeds make an early exit with a straight-up loss as heavy favorites. We have also seen a few of the top seeds dominate their first two opponents to set the stage for an even deeper run this week.

The trick to cashing in a few winning tickets on the upcoming games is to find the teams playing at their top form at the right time of the year. The Big East’s Villanova Wildcats made a run all the way to a national title in 2016. All indications point towards another deep run this time around after winning their first two tournament games by a combined 49 points.

The No. 1 Wildcats are set as 5.5-point favorites at most online sportsbooks for this Friday’s Sweet 16 matchup against No. 5 West Virginia in one of two East Region games. The Mountaineers have also looked sharp in easy wins against Murray State and Marshall but keeping things closer than six points against Villanova could be a pretty tall task.

The biggest spread on the board at most books for the Sweet 16 is in the Midwest Region with the Duke Blue Devils listed as 11.5-point favorites against No. 11 Syracuse. These ACC foes met in the regular season with Duke rolling to a 60-44 victory at home as a 13.5-point favorite. Things may not be as easy this time around with the Orange winning their first three games in this tournament SU as underdogs.

Region Futures

Another great way to bet on the Sweet 16 Round at the top online sportsbooks is on the updated futures odds for this tournament. Some of the best value on the board are the odds set for each individual region. Villanova is an odds-on -160 favorite to win the East and Duke’s odds to win the Midwest Region have been set at -150.

No. 5 Kentucky has emerged as the favorite to win the depleted South Region at -135 with the top four seeds out of the tournament. The best battle left on the board is in the West with No. 4 Gonzaga listed as a +140 favorite followed by No. 3 Michigan at +175 betting odds.

NCAA Tournament Props

Betting on game props is always a great way to add even more excitement to the Sweet 16. The best thing about betting on props for the NCAA Tournament is that many online Sportsbooks, like 1Vice put its own special twist on the prop bet opportunities it offers. It can be well worth the time to shop around a bit to find a few prop bets with the best value in the posted odds.
