Andres Iniesta put Barca ahead in the 29th minute when he took possession of
the ball on the left and got into the penalty area before beating goalkeeper
David Villa squandered a great chance shortly before halftime that would have
doubled the lead, but Barca’s second goal arrived early in the second half
when a corner kick was headed home at the near post by Gerard Pique.
The Catalan side now owns an eight-point lead over second-place Real Madrid
with three games to play, while Espanyol has won only one of its last seven
Osasuna 3, Real Zaragoza 1
Aragon, Spain – Osasuna moved out of the bottom three on Sunday as the club
rallied from a goal down at halftime to claim a 3-1 win over Real Zaragoza.
The home side started quickly with Lafita scoring after 13 minutes, but things
changed in the second half as Javier Camunas equalized on the hour mark before
Sergio put Osasuna in front with a goal 20 minutes from time.
Kike Sola then scored nine minutes later to secure the win, moving Osasuna two
points clear of the drop zone with three games to play.
Mallorca 0, Villarreal 0
Mallorca, Spain – Villarreal moved seven points clear of fifth-place Athletic
Bilbao on Sunday after a 0-0 draw with Mallorca.
Giuseppe Rossi hit the post for the Yellow Submarine in the 19th minute, but
the game lacked many quality scoring chances and Villarreal now trails third-
place Valencia by five points.
