2020 PGA Bermuda Championship picks

A somewhat weak field travels to Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton, Bermuda, and I predict a longshot will take victory this weekend. My job is to figure out who that will be and find some real value in my 2020 PGA Bermuda Championship picks.

The Masters are in two weeks, but before we get to watch the PGA pros tackle Augusta, they will tee it up here in Bermuda this week and in Houston next week. This event would normally be an alternative event, opposite of the WGC-HSBC Championships. With the cancellation of the HSBC, the Bermuda Championship has been elevated to a full FedEx Cup point event, with the winner getting an invite to the 2021 Masters.

This event debuted last year, with Brendon Todd shooting 24-under Par, including a 62 on Sunday to best Harry Higgs by 4 strokes to take victory. Todd is among the favorites to win this week, with the Top 5 favorites to win the 2020 PGA Bermuda Championship outright at America’s Bookie rounding out like this:

Will Zalatoris +900

Brendon Todd +950

Harold Varner III +1800

Doc Redman +2000

Emiliano Grillo / Denny McCarthy +2500

Last week, Justin Thomas almost hit for me. He finished T2 after a wild ride. My top guy Xander Schauffele finished T17, with Tyrrell Hatton at T28. Check out the full article looking at my PGA ZOZO Championship picks.

Top Picks to Win the 2020 PGA Bermuda Championship

Brendon Todd +950

In this field, a guy that shot a 62 on a Sunday last year to win it all deserves a shot in my PGA Bermuda Championship picks. The 35-year-old Todd has 3 PGA TOUR wins, and while he’s 171st in driving distance, it doesn’t really matter here.

At 6,842 yards, Port Royal Golf Course is the second shortest on the PGA TOUR. He shot a 63 in Round 2 last year, with a 68 and 67 on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.

I don’t love his odds at +950. However, when a $100 bet on a guy that can get around a course low nets you $950, we’ll roll with him as a 1-1.5 unit play.

Tyler McCumber +4500

I think this is a great spot for Tyler McCumber to break through and get his first PGA TOUR victory.

The Ponte Verde Beach native has played great recently. Although he missed the cut at the Shriners a few weeks ago, the week before that he finished T6 at the Sanderson Farms and 2nd at the Corales Puntacana. He could have very well won at the Corales Golf Course if it wasn’t for a 71 on Friday.

This week features another coastal course, one which McCumber played last year, finishing T41 despite a +1 72 on Sunday.

I won’t break the bank on McCumber, but he’s a 0.5-1 unit play this weekend.

Luke List +3500

List is a gut feeling pick this week. He has missed the cut in his last two events (Sanderson Farms and Shriners) after finishing T8 at the Corales.

Like McCumber, List has yet to win on the TOUR, but has two 2nd place finishes. He shot a couple solid opening rounds at Corales (69 & 65) before fading over the weekend.

I won’t spend the mortgage on List either, but I like him as a 0.5-1 unit play in Bermuda.
