US Open Day 7
Since the Women have already made it to the Final 16, it’s time to take another look at the draw and see who actually has a shot to win this thing. On the Top half Azarenka will play Tatishvili with the winner playing the winner of Robson who has played well and Stosur. Waiting for them in the Semifinals will be Maria Sharapova or Petrova vs. Bartoli and Kvitova.
The Bottom half has Pironkova vs. Ivanovic and Serena vs. Hlavackova in one semi and Kerber vs. Errani and Radwanska vs. Vinci in the other.
It’s certainly looks like it will be Azarenka vs. Stosur in one quarterfinal and Sharapova vs. someone in the other. The other is Bartoli vs. Kvitova. Both of these players can be hot and cold at times. Bartoli likes this surface little bit more then Kvitova, but is out of shape and the type of game she plays at this time of year leads us to take Kvitova in 3 close sets.
On the other side look for Serena and Ivanovic to hook up and in the other Quarter as we said before the tournament we have no idea who gets there. We didn’t expect Radwanska to get this far but she has and Kerber should beat Errani.
The Azarenka -Stosur quarter should be good one, with Azarenka winning tin 3 tough sets. Sharapova is just better on this surface and will beat Kvitova. On the other side, this is the point in the tourney where Ivanovic usually goes home and maybe Aggie will get thru.
So we see Azarenka vs. Sharapova and Radwanska vs. Serena in the Semis. Very little surprise there. It sure looks like a Serena vs. Azarenka final right now and we are sticking to our guns with Azarenka finishing on top.
For the Men there were no big surprises as all the big favorites won including Federer and Andy Murray. We were a little surprised that Murray had to struggle against Lopez. For the Women the major surprise was Maria Kirilenko losing in 4 sets to Hlavackova. Jack Sock had his moments losing 2 out of 3 tiebreaks but ran out of gas in the 4th set vs. Almagro. He will learn from that experience. You gotta leave a little gas in the tank for the end.
Today the Men finish up their 3rd round and the women start there 4th. Djokovic will be in action against Benneteau. Roddick will try to keep his career intact vs. Fognini, Del Potro and Tipsarevic are big favorites in their matches. There are however some very good Men’s matches David Ferrer and Lleyton Hewitt should go the didtsnace with Ferrer winning, Isner and Kohlschreiber should be a lot of fun, with Big John winning, and the best match of the day should be Wawrinka and Dolgopolov that will go the distance with Stan probably winning 7-5 in the 5th.
Today were calling up America's Bookie and betting Stosur -270 vs. Robson, Isner -340 over Kohlschreiber, Roddick -600 over Fognini, and Wawrinka-140 over Dogopolov. See you Monday for the start of the Men’s round of 16.
