UFC 148 Odds & Previews

UFC 148 is scheduled for Saturday night, July 7th inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.  There is a great card for the event with an exciting headliner between Anderson Silva and Chael Sonnen.

Anderson Silva -275 vs. Chael Sonnen +215

This is the fight that everybody has been waiting for.  It adds to the excitement and drama that these guys really don’t like each other.  Sonnen is a trash talker and has been going at it verbally against Silva for a long time.  It might be a publicity stunt but Silva has uncharacteristically been giving it back recently.  Silva says he wants to hurt, not just hurt but break Sonnen’s arms and legs.  Sonnen pretty much dominated Silva the entire fight last time around until Silva got an arm lock and submitted him.  Anderson Silva will be ready this time around.  Look for him to get a tap out from Sonnen again.

Forrest Griffin -310 vs. Tito Ortiz +250

If this isn’t the last fight for both fighters it is close to it.  This is their third fight and each has won one.  I don’t think this one will be close.  Ortiz was easily beaten by Nogueira in his last fight with it ending in a 1st round TKO.  Griffin beat Rich Franklin and was impressive doing it in his last fight.  Hands down Griffin will get the win here.

Cung Le +200 vs. Patrick Cote -250

If not a great fighter, Cung Le is definitely entertaining.  In his last outing he was brutally beaten by Wanderlei Silva.  Le is a very energetic fight who throws a ton of low percentage strikes.  Cote is new to the UFC and even though the organization is trying to build him up, he is not that good of a fighter.  Look for Le to confuse him and go with the underdog to make a little money here.

Dong Hyun Kim +115 vs. Demian Maia +200

This should actually be a really good fight in the 170 lb. division.  Kim is well known for a serious ground and pound, judo knowledge and for his long range strikes.  Maia is a Brazilian Ju Jitsu legend who has somewhat moved away from the BJJ and wants to be a striker, which he is not that good at.  I’m giving the edge to Kim unless Maia has altered his training and gone back to BJJ.

Chad Mendes -550 vs Cody McKenzie +400

Chad Mendes last fight was a defeat to Featherweight champ Jose Aldo.  He could use an impressive win against Cody McKenzie to start on the path to another championship shot.  Mendes is a very impressive wrestler, probably the best in the division while McKenzie is a journeyman as well.  Long odds on this one so be conservative, but Mendes should get the win here.
