Titans Top Steelers 26-23 on Bironas’ Last Second FG

The Pittsburgh Steelers continue to have trouble on the road as Titans’ kicker Rob Bironas booted a 40 yard field goal as time ran out to give the Titans a much needed win on Thursday night. 

It looked like the Steelers were on track for the win as they took the lead early in the 4^th quarter with a 1yard TD run by Baron Batch.  Shaun Suisham added to the lead with a 52 yard field goal with a little over 8 minutes left in the game.  But this game was not over.  Titans’ QB Matt Hasselbeck tossed a 5 yard TD pass to Kenny Britt to tie things up at 23 with 4:19 left.  The Bironas kicked the game winner as the last ticks of the clock passed to send Pittsburgh home disappointed once again.

This was a good defensive effort by a team that has allowed more scoring than any other team in the league.  Holding the Steelers to 23 was the first time they had kept an opponent under 30 points this season.  On the offensive side of the ball, Hasselbeck was 25 of 44 passing for 290 yards.  He tossed 1 pick as well as the game tying touchdown.  Not bad numbers from Chris Johnson as he ran for 91 yards on 19 rushes.  For Pittsburgh, Big Ben had a lot of yards in the game with 363 but he just couldn’t turn that into scoring as he had only 1 TD along with an interception.

This loss extends the Steelers road problems as they have lost all 3 of their away games this season and 5 of their last 6 if you go back to last season.  It was a great, much needed win for Tennessee no matter what but you have to start wondering just how good of a team they beat.  The Steelers are just not looking like their usually formidable selves.  Tennessee will try to build on this as they head to Buffalo next week to take on a pretty weak Bills’ team.  Pittsburgh will look to solve their woes on the road with a trip to Cincinnati.
