SEC Picks of the Week
There are some good games this week in the SEC, which just happens to be the toughest conference in the Nation. What is it, six national championships in a row? We have 3 games we are betting in the conference this week and thought we would share these picks with you.
Auburn (0-1) vs. Mississippi.St. (1-0)
Oddsmakers have the Mississippi St. Bulldogs as a 3 point favorite at home and the total is 48 ½. I was actually surprised to see the Auburn Tigers give Clemson a close, competitive game last week. Yeah, Clemson’s offense racked up the yardage but Auburn was able to hang in there. Kiehl Frazier is going to have to step it up for Auburn. He only completed 11 of 27 passes last week. Tre Mason had a good outing with 107 yards. Mississippi St. beat up on Jackson St. 56-9. It is going to be tough to go in and beat the Bulldogs, but the Tigers really need the win here. If they lose this one it is going to be a long season. Auburn finds a way to win so take the road dog +3.
#7 Georgia (1-0) vs. Missouri (1-0)
The Georgia Bulldogs are a 2 point favorite over the Missouri Tigers and the total right now is 54 ½. Georgia will officially welcome Missouri to the SEC Saturday night. Georgia beat Buffalo last week in their opener 45-23. Heisman contender Aaron Murray got off to a good start on the year by going 15 of 26 passing for 258 yards and 3 touchdowns. Missouri crushed Southeastern Louisiana 62-10 in their opener last weekend. Although the competition wasn’t that stiff it was still an impressive win. Kendial Lawrence led the Tigers with 121 yards rushing on 10 carries and scored 2 touchdowns. The Dawgs won the SEC East after an 0-2 start, but their goals are much higher this year. They have to want this game more than Missouri, although the Tigers will have a soldout stadium and would love to win their first game in the conference. They won’t. I don’t usually like road favorites this early in the year, but take Georgia -2 here.
#24 Florida (1-0) vs. Texas A&M (0-0)
America’s Bookie has the Florida Gators as a 1 point favorite on the road in this matchup against the Aggies of Texas A&M with the total set at 50. I was not impressed with the Gators last Saturday in their 27-14 win over Bowling Green. This will be Texas A&M’s first game in the league also. Their first game was postponed last week due to Hurricane Isaac. The Aggies have a redshirt freshman at QB so it will be interesting to see how he fares against the defenses of the SEC. Florida tried out 2 quarterbacks last week with sophomore Jeff Driskel and Jacoby Brissett splitting the snaps. This week Coach Muschamp named Driskel his starter. This game is going to depend on how Johnny Manziel does in his first game as QB. If he plays even halfway decent and doesn’t make mistakes I think the Aggies will be ok. I don’t want to read too much into a first game of the season, but I really didn’t like how the Gators looked against lowly Bowling Green. I say take the Aggies at home as they break their virginity, so to speak, in the SEC.
