SEC Game of the Week – #4 LSU Tigers vs. #10 Florida Gators

The #4 LSU Tigers travel to Gainesville this Saturday to take on the #10 Florida Gators in what is sure to be one of the top SEC matchups of the season.  America’s Bookie has LSU as a 2 ½ point favorite at home and the total has been set at 43.

LSU has struggled a bit in their last two games against Auburn and Towson.  Florida on the other hand has seemed to have gotten stronger each game.  After a tough win over Texas A&M they have looked more solid in the last two weeks with a convincing 37-20 win over a good Tennessee team and a blowout of Kentucky last weekend.  The Tigers have had 5 turnovers and 19 penalties in the last two games and you can bet your bottom dollar that Coach Les Miles has been drilling them about this over the week leading up to the battle in the Swamp.  The passing game has not been what they have hoped it would be but Miles still has strong confidence in his QB, Zach Mettenberger.

One of the biggest challenges the Tigers will have to overcome is that offensive line of the Gators.  Florida head coach Will Muschamp considers them the strength of the team and their performance will be a big factor in their success.  He knows this will be the toughest defensive front they have seen so far.  They will face the likes of DE’s Sam Montgomery and Barkevious Mingo who are considered 2 of the top passer rushers in college football.  They will also have to try and handle the huge pair of defensive tackles, Anthony Johnson and Bennie Logan.

LSU won last year’s contest in Baton Rouge 41-11 but don’t look for this year to be a runaway.  The Tigers have slipped just a bit in the rankings after the last 2 games but look for them to be ready for this crucial game.  I might be making a mistake taking a road favorite when it comes to the swamp but LSU will win this game and cover.
