Seahawks beat Green Bay 14-12 on Botched Call by Replacement Refs
The biggest news in the NFL right now is how terrible the officiating has been this season with the owners locking out the regular referees. It is getting to a point now where something must be done or there is going to be a major backlash from fans.
The game was a defensive struggle for most of the game. Despite the distraction of the referees we must not overlook the fact that Green Bay is just now clicking on offense like the juggernaut they were last season. They were only able to generate one touchdown on the evening and just looked like they were struggling most of the night. The defense was fine as they only gave up one legitimate TD in addition to the fiasco that ended the game.
The Seahawks defense was stout itself. They had Aaron Rodgers scrambling all night and recorded 8 sacks. Rodgers ended up with a passer rating of 81.5 as he completed 26 of 39 passes for 223 yards and no touchdowns. An Aaron Rodgers game without a TD is very rare indeed. Russell Wilson wasn’t great himself but he didn’t make any big mistakes either. The game was basically a snoozer until it got to the end which is where things got very bizarre.
Russell Wilson tossed a 24 yard pass with time running out. Golden Tate of Seattle shoved a defender out of the way. He then wrestled the ball out of M.D. Jennings hands. The replacement refs stood around with a look on their faces that clearly showed they were scared and didn’t know what was going on. They made odd hand signals that nobody was sure about. They finally ruled the play a touchdown and then a review upheld the call. I’m sure Seattle was happy to get the win, no questions asked. But the rest of the country pretty much came to the same conclusion. Enough of this silliness! It’s time to get the real refs back to calling the games.
