February 6, 2012 by askthebookie

The cause is being investigated by Laurens County Coroner Nick Nichols.

Allen, a 21-year-old linebacker on the football team, was found by a fellow student around 5:30 a.m. ET and then transported by EMS to Laurens County Hospital, where the native of St. Augustine, Fla., was pronounced dead.

"Our deepest sympathies and sincerest prayers are extended to Kyle Allen's family, teammates, and many friends," said Bob Staton, the college's chief of staff. "Our campus community grieves this untimely and tragic loss as we remember Kyle and his many contributions to the PC family."

Allen played in all 11 of Presbyterian's games last season. He redshirted in 2010 after transferring from Georgia Southern.
