Premier League: Arsenal vs. Tottenham Hotspur Preview

February 23, 2012 by agent

Arsenal hosts Tottenham Hotspur in what promises to be an entertaining game between two teams desperate to win. BetOnline has Arsenal at +145, Tottenham Hotspur at +180 and a draw at +225. The total for this game is set at 2½.

Arsenal is currently placed fourth, 10 points behind Tottenham Hotspur with 13 games left to play. Arsenal needs to win this game if they want to finish in the top three at the end of the season.

Tottenham Hotspur beat Arsenal 2-1 in the previous meeting between these two teams at White Hart Lane and they can't afford to drop many more points if they want to become a viable threat in the title chase.

Theo Walcott is the key player in this game for Arsenal. He is very streaky, at times it looks like he will become the next Arsenal legend and other times it seems like he doesn't even belong on the team. A perfect example of this would be this month, he had three assists in the game against Blackburn Rovers but he hasn't contributed much in the other four games. Arsenal can win this game as long as the best version of Walcott shows up.

The player to watch for Tottenham Hotspur is Jermain Defoe, he hasn't scored in his last three games, which ties his season-high but he has scored eight goals in 17 Premier League games, so his talent is undeniable.

Defoe has to produce scoring opportunities for both himself and his teammates to give his team a chance in this game, especially if Emmanuel Adebayor is unable to play.

Arsenal has a big edge in case Benoit Assou-Ekotto misses this game because that would mean that Michael Dawson has to defend Robin Van Persie, who has been unstoppable, scoring 22 goals in 22 Premier League games. Both teams will come out aggressively and they have the talent to score plenty of goals, I'm taking the over here.
