Odds to Win the 2012 World Series

The All-Star break and the trade deadline are almost here, which means that the next few weeks will determine if the teams are buying or selling as we approach the postseason. A last minute big trade or acquiring a player via waivers can be the difference between making the postseason or even winning the World Series, as some teams are just a key player or two short from making a postseason run. The odds to win the World Series will change constantly but this is how everything stands right now.

The New York Yankees and the Texas Rangers are the favorites at 5/1, courtesy of the Las Vegas Hotel (formerly the Las Vegas Hilton). Several teams were supposed to be contenders this season and some of them have really struggled; however, there are still under 100 games left for each team so there is plenty of time to get back on track.

Both the Yankees and the Rangers lead their respective divisions and currently hold the two best records in baseball. The other American League division leader, the Chicago White Sox, currently have a 25/1 odds to win the World Series.

The Detroit Tigers were supposed to be one of the better teams in baseball this season because they signed Prince Fielder but they're still struggling at the early part of the year. The Tigers are getting a lot of love from Las Vegas oddsmakers though, sitting at 12/1 to win the World Series. Those are not bad odds for a team that is 2 games out of first place in the American League Central. Many experts are tabbing the Tigers as a team to watch out for in the next few months.

In the National League, the teams with the best odds to win the World Series are the Cincinnati Reds and the Los Angeles Dodgers, both at 8/1 odds. The Washington Nationals, who currently lead the National League East by 3½ games, have been tabbed at 10/1 odds to win the World Series.
