Odds to Win March Madness
The Indiana Hoosiers are coming off a breakout season, defeating No. 1 Kentucky at home in December and advancing to the Sweet 16 for the first time since playing in the National Championship game in 2002.
Oddsmakers have Indiana as the favorites to win the National Championship, priced at +700. Plenty of talent will return to Indiana, including sophomore center Cody Zeller and Christian Watford, who averaged 12.6 points per game last year. The Hoosiers will also bring back starters Victor Oladipo, Will Sheehey and Jordan Hulls, as well as the No. 5 recruiting class, highlighted by point guard Kevin Ferrell.
Following Indiana in the championship odds is Louisville, at +800. Rick Pitino will have plenty of returning players from a team that advanced to the Final Four. Starters Gorgui Dieng, Peyton Siva and Chane Behanan are back along with key bench players Russ Smith and Wayne Blackshear. Luke Hancock, who transferred from George Mason and the returning Mike Marra to the mix of experience and toughness that Pitino will have at his disposal this fall.
The defending national champions, Kentucky Wildcats, opened as +600 favorites to repeat this March but have dropped to +800 thanks to the mass exodus of talent to the NBA. The top six players from the team that won the National championship last season are going pro, leaving just Kyle Wiltjer and Jon Hood as returnees.
However, Kentucky once again boasts the best recruiting class in the country with future NBA stars in Nerlens Noel, Alex Poythress, Archie Goodwin and Willie Cauley.
