NLL hands out weekly awards for week five

It was an important win for the Stealth who came into the contest with a record of 0-3.

Toronto goaltender Matt Roik was named the Defensive Player of the Week. Roik made 38 saves on 44 shots faced in a 15-6 win at Philadelphia. The win improved Toronto to 3-2 and moved them into first place in East Division. Roik held the Wings scoreless for the entire second half of the game.

Paul Rabil of the Washington Stealth earned the Transition Player of the Week award after he collected six loose balls to go with a goal and two assists in Washingtons 11-10 overtime win against Buffalo. The Stealth will try to make it back-to-back wins Friday night at home against the Calgary Roughnecks.

Rochester Knighthawks forward Johnny Powless, the fifth overall selection in the 2011 NLL Entry Draft, picked up the Rookie of the Week award. He scored twice, had two assists and picked up three loose balls to lift Rochester to a 16-14 win over the Minnesota Swarm last Saturday. The win ended a three-game losing streak.

The weekly player award winners are selected by a vote of the leagues general managers and head coaches.
