NHL Cancels Games

It is getting serious now as the NHL has cancelled games through September 30th due to the lockout the league has imposed due to the absences of a new collective bargaining agreement between the players association and the league.

Preseason games were scheduled to begin on September 23rd and the regular season would begin on October 11th.  There is no word on whether the regular season will be delayed but I would say it doesn’t look good.  I would guess that they will have to cancel more games if an agreement is not worked out within the next week, but that is just speculation.

With the cancellations and uncertainty the 2012 Kraft Hockeyville preseason game will be postponed.  The game was to have occurred in Belleville, Ontario on October 3rd.  Both sides really need to commit to getting this worked out.  This is the third work stoppage in the last 20 years and hockey can’t afford to alienate the fans again.  A long drawn out stoppage could really do irreparable damage to the NHL.
