NFL Week 9 Who’s Hot and Who’s Not

Updated: .October 31, 2017

It is hard to believe that the first half of the 2017 NFL regular season is already in the books. There have been a few big surprises along the way in the NFC, but a number of the preseason favorites in the AFC are playing true to form. As far as betting on the games at BetAnySports, the biggest surprise through the first eight weeks has been the resiliency of the underdogs to cover against the spread. Their winning edge is not as dominant as it was earlier in the season, but teams getting points have been able to cover 53.5 percent of the time.

When it comes to individual teams lining the pockets of bettors, the 7-1 Philadelphia Eagles top the list in the NFC with a 6-2 record ATS. They also own the best SU record in the NFL in the midst of a six-game winning streak straight-up while covering in their last five outings. The Eagles will face 3-4 Denver at home this Sunday as seven-point favorites to keep this winning streak alive heading into a well-deserved Week 10 bye.

You also have to add the 3-5 Chicago Bears to the hot list in the NFC at 6-2 ATS. The Bears have covered in their last four games while going 2-2 SU. They have the week off before returning to action in Week 10 to face Green Bay at home.

Over in the AFC, Kansas City is tied for the best SU record at 6-2 with New England (4-4 ATS) and Pittsburgh (5-3 ATS) while also covering in those six victories. The Chiefs snapped a rare two-game skid (SU and ATS) with Monday’s 29-19 victory against Denver as 7.5-point home favorites on BetAnySports’ closing betting line. They will back in action late Sunday afternoon against Dallas (4-3 SU and ATS) as slight one-point underdogs on the road.

Houston is just 3-4 SU through its first seven games, but it has also been a solid betting team at 5-2 ATS. The Texans are coming off a tough 41-38 loss to Seattle as six-point road underdogs heading into this Sunday’s matchup against AFC South rival Indianapolis (2-6 SU, 4-4 ATS) as heavy 13-point favorites.

The 3-5 New York Jets also deserve some credit as another losing team with a winning record ATS at 5-2-1. The Jets kickoff Week 9 on Thursday night against AFC East rival Buffalo (5-2, 4-1-2 ATS) as three-point home underdogs.
