NFL Preview and 5 star Picks
Well the inevitable finally happened. We thought Frankie was perfect but after going 1-1 last week on our 5 star picks, we finally missed one to drop our record for the year to 9-1. Still 90% isn’t bad. Time to go back to being perfect again this week.
5 star Picks*****
Cardinals +7 over 49ers. Do you remember a few weeks back when the Cardinals were atop some of the power polls. They certainly didn’t belong there but are still a good team. They actually have their starting QB back (Skelton) and he is completing over 70% of his passes. This is a division game on Monday Night Football, and if you are a smart bettor you know a Monday Night home dog is usually the way to go. The Cards want to win this to get them back into first place tie with the Niners. This is a huge game and the Cards will be in it all the way with a chance to win. Take Arizona here.
4 star Picks****
Eagles -1 over Falcons. Let’s be realistic here, if you bet this game before the season the Eagles would’ve been favored by at least a field goal. Nothing has really changed except that the Falcons are undefeated and the Eagles keep shooting themselves in the foot. Both teams will be well prepared for this game. The Eagles want to salvage their season and need this game more. They will find a way to win this game and raise their record to 4-3. Bet the home team.
Giants -1 over Cowboys. The Giants remember what happened when they play a glorified exhibition game on that Wednesday in New York to “Kickoff “the year. They weren’t sharp, dropped passes and didn’t take the Cowboys seriously. The Cowboys on the other hand were preparing for that game since the schedules came out in April. This is payback time. The Giants will be ready and will win and will put a strangle hold on this division. It won’t be easy however as both teams should move the ball, but in the end who do want to have playing QB with the game on the line, Eli or Romo?
Saints +6 over Broncos. The Saints are far from dead. As bad as they’ve played they have only 4 losses on the year. The defense needs to play better but they can still score with anybody. The Broncos are playing great ball as well. This will be a good game, and if you want to have a chance to win at the end of the game you had better take the generous spot here. Brees will match Peyton “tit for tat” and it will come down to the 4th Quarter. Take the Points.
3 star Picks-***
Rams +7 over Patriots. This is the annual London game. The Patriots have been in many close games and have won some of them. The Rams have been in many close games and not been winning many of them. This game is in London, the field will be a mess as usual, and the team that runs the ball better will win. That team would be the Rams. Either way it will be very close game and you must take the 7 points here.
Packers -14.5 over Jaguars. We are going to use reverse, reverse psychology here. We haven’t bet a 2 TD favorite in the NFL since Frankie was a child back in the 50’s (The 1850’s). We are laying the big spot here. The line has been as high as 15.5 and most of the stupid money is saying that it’s just too many points. Realistically however, with Jacksonville’s only weapon (Jones-Drew) hurting, the Jaguars are going to get killed in this game by at least 20-30 points.
2 star picks-**
Colts +3.5 over Titans. The Colts play better at home than on the road, but in a game that is a toss-up you must take the “3 and a hook”. Both of these teams play good one week and bad the next, which often happens with young teams. There is no way you bet the Titans here and feel good about yourself so bet the Colts.
Browns +1 over Chargers. In a matchup of 2 of the worst rated QB’s in the league we are taking home team. The Chargers are a much better team but they always self destruct. The Browns however lose not because they are stupid, they lose because of inexperience. Give me a young hungry home team over a “Loosy-Goosy”, underachieving road team any day.
Panthers +9 over Bears. The Bears are coming of off an emotional division win on MNF. The Panthers are desperate, embarrassed and want to play well for at least one game this year. Plus with the 9 point cushion, the smart money is on the Panthers here. You might be able to add a star to this pick. Panthers cover here.
Steelers-4.5 over Redskins. We are not picking a side here but instead going with over 47. The Redskins don’t play any defense anymore ,as was illustrated by the Giants going 77 yards in 11 seconds to win last weeks game. The Steelers like to get into shootouts sometimes as well, usually at home. There will be points scored. Bet over 47
1 star picks-*
Lions -1 over Seahawks. This one is too tough to pick a winner. Seattle has been playing hard every week and usually covers. The Lions need to start playing better. The safe play is under 43.5 here. Especially with Stafford being banged up.
Miami+1 over Jets. Another game that will come down to who makes a play or has better kicker, like in the first game. It will be sloppy and points will be scored. Take over 40.5 here.
Chiefs -1.5 over Raiders. Does anybody really care about this game except the immediate families of the players? We are reading the line. It looks like Oakland is the better team and KC is favored .Bet the Chiefs.
