NCAA Football: ACC Creates Schedule Plan for 14-Team Layout

February 6, 2012 by bettor

Many people are interested to see how the ACC does with their new 14 team league in both College Basketball and College Football.  One thing that intrigued me was the question of how they were going to set up their schedule for the 14 teams, and also how they were going to set up each of the specific divisions inside of the conference.  There are two divisions in the ACC, the Atlantic and the Coastal, and currently both divisions have six teams.

The two additions will be none other than Syracuse and Pittsburgh, who will both definitely have a huge affect on the basketball aspect of things.  Many people are overlooking the fact that both of these teams have the potential to make some noise in College Football.  Pittsburgh is definitely the more likely selection to be a team to compete for the ACC crown in football, as it wasn't long ago that this team was a pretty consistent top 25 team.  Pittsburgh won't be a favorite in terms of sports betting odds on AmericasBookie, but they could definitely be a sleeper year in and year out.

The ACC has decided to play a nine game schedule in football once the two teams end up joining the ACC from the Big East.  It's unknown currently exactly when these two teams will be joining up, as the Big East currently requires a 27-month notice before a school is able to leave the league.  The ACC's annual winter meeting was the first time that anyone saw reps from the two new additions to the league as a part of the discussions for the league.  There were no votes taken in for these two teams though, as they aren't currently full members of the league.

The plan is that Syracuse is going to join up with the Atlantic Division which includes strong teams like Clemson, North Carolina State, and Florida State, who have all been talked about as potential top 25 teams next year.  Pittsburgh on the other hand will join the Coastal division which includes the likes of Virginia Tech, North Carolina, and Miami of Florida to name a few.

Obviously quite a few people are interested to see how these two new additions do in the ACC.  Both the ACC and the Big East haven't been known in the past year or two as "powerhouses" of the College Football world, but we expect to see a few teams from both divisions as a part of the top 25 both when the year begins and the year ends.  Clemson is being talked about as a potential National Title contender, and Virginia Tech and Florida State are always two of the top teams in the league as well.
