NCAA Basketball News and Updates
Though we may be out of season, there is plenty of news in NCAA basketball. Most sports bettors are focused on other sports right now, but it never hurts to pick up bits of information in the offseason.
The NCAA has changed the rules and starting today coaches are permitted to make unlimited calls and send unlimited text messages to recruits. In the past text messages were prohibited and only 1 call per month was allowed. You have to wonder if some of these coaches are even familiar with texting, but I’m sure someone on staff will be responsible. We have yet to see if recruits will by annoyed with the bombardment of texts that are sure to come.
Maverick Morgan, ranked among the top 15 center prospects in the country, has chosen to play for Illinois. He had also been considering Xavier, Wisconsin, Vanderbilt and Minnesota but was satisfied with what he saw in Champaign. This is a good signing for the Illini. Morgan has size (6’10”), mobility and a nice touch on his shots. The kid also knows how to pass the ball and should play a role from the beginning.
The Kansas Jayhawks have hired Doc Sadler as basketball director of operations. He had recently coached at Nebraska for a year. Coach Bill Self has also replaced assistant coach Danny Manning with Florida assistant coach Norm Roberts. This group of coaches is about as solid as it gets so expect the Jayhawks to be back in the mix next season.
