Monday Night Football – Houston Texans try to Stay Perfect against New York Jets
Houston travels to the Big Apple to face the Jets on Monday Night football as an 8 ½ point favorite. The total for the game is set at 40. The Texans are off to their best start in the team’s history and the Jets are coming off of a humiliating defeat to San Francisco 34-0 last week.
Houston is running like a well oiled machine with a much more balanced team than they have had in the past. They are no longer that one dimensional team that basically counted on Matt Schaub for everything. They have a great defense which leads the AFC in most defensive statistics including 14 points per game, 273 yards total yards allowed per game and 183 passing yards per game. Schaub has Arian Foster to rely on in the backfield so the offense isn’t 100% on his shoulders which is allowing him to have time to make decisions finding his receivers.
It will be interesting to see what New York comes up with for tonight after they were unable to get anything going against the Niners last week. Fans are already starting the pleas for Tebow. Will Rex Ryan listen and have the always talked about QB under center tonight? Probably not, but I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see him come in if the Jets don’t get anything coming soon. To top off their recent woes, New York found out last week that Santonio Holmes will be out for the season after injuring his foot against San Francisco last week. This added to All Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis being out with injury on the defense does not paint a rosy picture for New York to turn things around against this Texans’ team. Losing your top receiver when your QB is struggling doesn’t help the situation.
Before writing this I was second guessing myself and thinking of taking the Jets +8 ½ as there are very few times to bet such a large road favorite. But Houston is that good and New York is a weakened team that is questionable at best. Sometimes things are exactly as they seem. Take Texas and lay the points.
