Monday Night Football – Dallas Cowboys are favored by 3 at Home over Chicago Bears
In Jay Cutler and Tony Romo we have had 2 QB’s that have been up and down this season. After getting off to a good start in Dallas’ win over the world champion New York Giants, Romo has struggled in the last 2 weeks against Seattle and Tampa Bay. Now with a great defense like Seattle has we can understand but against the Tampa Bay Bucs there has to be cause for concern. He is not great, in my opinion, under the best of circumstances. But his offensive line is looking incapable of keeping opposing defenses off his back. And a frazzled Tony Romo is a mistake prone Tony Romo. Center Phil Costa was out last week and his backups just couldn’t get the job done. Costa is doubtful to go against Chicago and it could be a long game for the Dallas QB. The Bears lead the NFL in sacks and they are going to swarm the backfield on Monday night.
Jay Cutler played well in Chicago’s season opening win against the Colts, but has looked like his old self the last 2 weeks including a meltdown after the loss to Green Bay in which he berated his team for allowing all the sacks. Whether it was true or not, it isn’t terribly smart to piss of the wall that is holding back 300 pound monsters that are trying to tear your head off. RB Matt Forte has been upgraded to probable for the game and in my opinion it is key to have him back in the lineup. Cutler just doesn’t have the stuff to carry this team on his own. The only way the Bears are going to be successful this season is for Forte to perform well and be the real leader of this offense. I don’t think his team mates are ever going to look at the QB as the leader.
Both of these teams have significant issues which makes this game hard to pick. I have seen good arguments for picks on either side so far but look for Chicago to get more pressure on defense than Dallas does. For this reason we are giving the slight nod to Chicago +3 on the road.
