MMA Betting – UFC 144 Odds & Picks

February 21, 2012 by clerk

UFC 144 is this weekend and the action will be coming to fans live from the Saitama Super Arena in Japan. The fight card is one of the best cards in awhile and will feature a lightweight championship fight. Check out our free main card picks for UFC 144 below and make sure you get your bets in with Americas Bookie before this weekend. The PPV card will begin at 10PM ET and there are going to be some excellent fights to bet on this weekend.

UFC 144 Main Card Odds & Picks

• Frank Edgar -130 vs. Benson Henderson +110

Frank Edgar (14-1-1) will be putting his lightweight title on the line against Benson Henderson (15-2) in the main event. Edgar has his work cut out for him against Henderson and I personally don’t think he’ll be able to handle the pace. Henderson has a ruthless pace and puts constant pressure on his opponents. Edgar has won a lot of his fights by decision and I don’t think he’ll be able to make it 5 rounds against Henderson. I can see Henderson upsetting Edgar and winning the fight by stoppage in the later rounds.

• Quinton Jackson -245 vs. Ryan Bader +205

Quinton Jackson (32-9) vs. Ryan Bader (13-2) is going to be a battle between two wrestlers that don’t mind swinging either. I can see a ton of action coming in on Jackson, so I’d bet on him now while you can at the current odds. Both fighters are great wrestlers, but I can see this fight staying standing up for awhile. These two fighters both have knockout power and I think Rampage is going to want to put on a show in front of the Japanese fans that he has fought in front of before while with the PRIDE promotion.

• Cheick Kongo -400 vs. Mark Hunt +280

Cheick Kongo (17-6-2) vs. Mark Hunt (7-7) is going to be a great fight, but I don’t think Hunt can quite compete with Kongo. This has the potential to be a quick and dirty fight with Kongo winning by TKO/KO. Kongo should be able to take Hunt to the ground and start pounding him out until he picks up the victory. I’ll be betting on Kongo to win by TKO/KO to lower the juice that I need to risk while betting on the favourite in this fight.

• Jake Shields -260 vs. Yoshihiro Akiyama +200

Jake Shields (26-6-1) won’t be the crowd favourite against Yoshihiro Akiyama (13-4), but he’s a big favourite at the bookies. Shields and Akiyama both need to win this fight, so it should be very interesting. This is going to be a welterweight fight and Akiyama is going to have to make a big weight cut. Akiyama could be dropped from the UFC if he loses this fight and if Shields loses he could be on the chopping blocks in the near future. Look for Shields to win this fight against the home crowd favourite.

• Anthony Pettis -260 vs. Joe Lauzon +180

Anthony Pettis (14-2) will be fighting Joe Lauzon (21-6) in the 1st main card fight this weekend. Both fighters are exciting and it should be a great way to start the night. Pettis has the better stand-up game and both fighters can hold their own on the ground, so I’ll be taking Pettis to win this fight. No surprises here, as I think Pettis will be able to take out the more experienced Lauzon.
