Updated: .August 14, 2017

As the 2017 MLB regular season reaches the midway point of August, there are some clear winners and losers in the race to the six division titles and the two wild card playoff spots up for grabs in each league.

As of Sunday’s results, the closest division race remains in the NL Central were the defending champions Chicago Cubs (61-55) are clinging to a one-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals (61-57) after winning two of three games on the road this weekend against Arizona. The Cubs are 4-7 over their last 11 games while the Cardinals continue to close the gap with just one loss in their last nine contests. Milwaukee is just two games off the pace at 61-59 after taking two of three games against Cincinnati at home over the weekend and Pittsburgh (58-60) is still in the hunt after winning six of its last 10 games.

The Boston Red Sox (67-50) remain one of the hottest betting teams in baseball at BetAnySports and, with their 2-1 series victory against rival New York on the road this weekend, they have opened up a 5.5-game lead on the Yankees in AL East Division race. Cleveland remains in control of the lead in the AL Central following its 3-1 series win against Tampa Bay over the last four days at 63-52 overall, but the hard-charging Minnesota Twins are just 4.5 games back in that race after winning eight of their last 10 games. These two teams will face one another this week in a three-game set in Minnesota starting on Tuesday night. Kansas City has just three victories in its last 10 games, but at 59-58 overall, the Royals are five games off the pace in that division title race.

Houston still has the best record in the AL at 72-45 and a comfortable 12-game lead over the Los Angeles Angels in the AL West, but its late-season swoon continues with a 3-9 record in the month of August. The Angels are making some noise with a six-game winning streak that has them at 61-58 overall and in excellent position for a wild card spot in the playoffs.

The Los Angeles Dodgers continue to set the pace in the NL with an overall record of 83-34 and with back-to-back victories against San Diego after losing last Friday’s series opener. They are 17-3 over their last 20 games. When it comes to betting MLB games at BetAnySports that is about as hot as its gets in the dog days of summer.
