MLB Games for 9/1

There are some great matchups today. Here are the games for the day.

American League

Baltimore Orioles (73-58) vs. New York Yankees (75-56) 1:05 PM ET

The Baltimore Orioles are making themselves comfortable in the Bronx – and if the trend continues, they could find themselves in a tie for the American League East lead at the conclusion of the weekend. Manager Buck Showalter's charges will vie for their sixth win in seven outings at Yankee Stadium on Saturday when the division rivals continue their pivotal three-game set. Mark Reynolds belted a pair of homers as the Orioles cruised to a 6-1 triumph on Friday. The victory was Baltimore's 21st win in 30 contests and moved it to within two games of the Yankees.

New York is headed in the opposite direction after falling for the seventh time in 10 games. Curtis Granderson's 34th homer in the ninth inning did little to alter the game's complexion as the majority of the crowd had already made its way to the exits. The Yankees will attempt to prevent Baltimore from winning all three series in New York this season.

New York Mets (62-70) vs. Miami Marlins (59-73) 7:10 PM ET

San Diego Padres (62-71) vs. Colorado Rockies (53-77) 8:10 PM ET

Arizona Diamondbacks (66-67) vs. Los Angeles Dodgers (70-63) 9:10 PM ET

A week ago, Los Angeles appeared primed to make a charge at first-place San Francisco in the National League West. Arizona is certainly doing its best to keep that from happening. The pesky Diamondbacks beat the Dodgers 4-3 in 11 innings on Friday, giving them eight straight wins against Los Angeles. Arizona moved 8 1/2 games behind San Francisco with the win, while the Dodgers remained 4 1/2 games back. Los Angeles center fielder Matt Kemp went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts after missing two games with a shoulder injury, and the Dodgers dropped to 2-5 since acquiring Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Nick Punto and Carl Crawford from Boston.

With rosters expanding Saturday, the Diamondbacks are expected to add infielder Cody Ransom and activate shortstop Willie Bloomquist and pitchers Josh Collmenter and Takashi Saito from the disabled list. Outfielder Adam Eaton was named the Pacific Coast League MVP, but he might not be recalled from Triple-A Reno since he’s not on the 40-man roster. The Dodgers are still in a holding pattern with closer Kenley Jansen, who threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Friday. Jansen, who has been out since Tuesday with an irregular heartbeat, is scheduled to meet with doctors on Tuesday to determine his status for the rest of the season.
