Elliott Sadler Wins Nationwide STP 300

Elliott Sadler won the STP 300 at Chicagoland Speedway after holding off Ricky Stenhouse Jr.  It was a green-white-checker finish for Sadler, who was sick all last week with a stomack virus.

Sadler spent most of the week leading up to the race in bed and wasn’t able to hold down any food on the day of the race.  Team owner Richard Childress asked Sadler about maybe using a replacement driver, but pride pushed the plucky driver to get behind the wheel.  And I bet he is glad he did!

Stenhouse crossed the finish line in 2nd place with Justin Allgaier, Kenny Wallace and Michael Annett following.  Stenhouse arguably should have won this race.  He had a stronger car than Sadler and was closing on him close to the end of the race when a late caution bunched up all the drivers.  Allgaier gave Sadler a push when the race restarted and that was the little boost he needed to get the win.  Had it not been for the caution Stenhouse probably wins the race.  He leads the point standings by 11 points after notching his third win of the season.

Danica Patrick was a non-factor again finishing 14th.  However, it was a respectable finish and she turned in the second fastest time of Saturdays practice.  It would be great if she could get at least a top 5 finish this season.
