By Knup There are many things to consider before you place a futures bet on the NFL Super Bowl, and one of them is how crazy the NFL season really can be. Injuries seem to pop up all over the place, and many times it comes down to watching a team just get hot at the right time. Take the Baltimore Ravens for example from last season. Almost no one really expected the Ravens to be serious contenders at about the halfway mark of the season, but they turned it around, got hot, and went on to win the 2013 Super Bowl. Now, the new ...

By Knup I talked recently about the quarterback controversy and battle that was going to be held by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Irish lost Everett Golson as they decided to dismiss him from the team and the school, something that was talked about more than just a little bit in the sports news recently. While Golson is out, it means that the Fighting Irish need to find an answer at the quarterback position. What did this mean exact...
By Edward23 A Yankee legend returns to the Bronx when manager Don Mattingly and the Dodgers begin a brief two-game set with the Yankees. Mattingly played his entire 14-year career with the Yankees and was on New York's coaching staff before leaving for Los Angeles six years ago. According to the oddsmakers at America's Bookie, the Dodgers are at -101, the Yankees are at -109 and the total is set at 8. The Yankees had a much-needed day off Monday after posting a 4-6 mark on a tough West Coast road trip. ...

By AK We are down to only a few more nights before one team is hailed a dethroner or one team becomes a defender. As we get closer to the season’s magnum opus, let’s take a step back and put the two contending teams face-to-face for a little nitpicking. The athletic versus the fundamental play While the defending champs Miami Heat aren’t exactly the youngest team in the league, their style of play fits a team with fresher legs and younger knees. With high flyers like reigning MVP LeBron James and the former 2006 Finals MVP Dwyane Wade, plus Ray Allen’s impec...
By Scott The 2013 U.S. Open will be hosted at the Merion Golf Club for the first time since 1981. The par 70 (6996 Yards) course is the shortest course for a PGA major since 2004. There has been a lot of rain this week on the course and the course will be soft, which will make it easier on the golfers. Playing at Merion should be interesting because only 11 players have played competitive rounds on the course. Most players will have never played a competitive round at Merion in the past. This week putting is going to be the biggest factor, but I also think that scrambling will play a ro...

By Knup A 27-8 record last season was no joke, and neither was the fact that the Arizona Wildcats were a strong team, and a serious major contender as well. The Wildcats had talent across their roster last season, they ended the year ranked 21st in the nation, and they obviously made it to the NCAA Tournament. They had a tough loss to the 7th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes in the thir...
By Edward23 We are less than a year away from the 2014 FIFA World Cup and things are still moving along slowly in CONCACAF, as every team has played every other team atleast once and there are two more games to be played tonight, which are the rematches between the US and Honduras and Costa Rica and Panama. Honduras at United States 9:00 PM ET Tuesday, June 18 (ESPN at 8:30 PM ET, UniMás at 8:00 PM ET) After wins over Jamaica and Panama, the United States caps off a three-game stretch of World Cup qualifiers with one last big test. By Scott The UFC is back in Canada this weekend. UFC 161 will be held at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba. There are two Facebook prelim fights starting at 6pm and four more prelim fights on FX starting at 8pm. The main card starts on PPV at 10pm. The card doesn’t look that great for a pay-per-view card, but we do have two great fights to end the night. In the main event we have Dan Henderson vs. Rashad Evans and then in the co-main event we have Roy Nelson vs. Stipe Miocic. Bet on this weekend's UFC action at America's Bookie.

By Edward23 Chicago Blackhawks vs. Boston Bruins After putting in more than the traditional 60 minutes in each of the first two contests of the Stanley Cup Final, the Bruins will look to seize an edge in the series, when they return home for Game 3 against the Blackhawks. Boston rebounded after suffering a hard-luck 4-3 loss in triple-overtime in Game 1 as Daniel Paille netted the winner in the extra session for a 2-1 triumph on Saturday. Tuukka Rask weathered a furious first-period storm and finished with 33 saves in the victory. According to the oddsmakers at

Earnhardt Jr. ready to get on the ‘road’ after Michigan win
Dale Earnhardt Jr. arrives to Sonoma this weekend with one thing finally
behind him — a four-year winless streak. To the delight of his millions of
fans, Earnhardt Jr. made it back to victory lane last Sunday at Michigan,
ending a string of 143 races without a win.
Earnhardt Jr. — NASCAR’s most popular driver — is having one of his best
season’s in Sprint Cup so far. With the win at Michigan, Earnhardt Jr. moved
to within four points of leader Matt Kenseth. He has scored 12 top-10 finishes
in the first 15 races this year.
“We started off (the season) pretty quick and we have gotten quicker and
quicker, especially these last couple weeks,” Earnhardt Jr. said. “We’ll just
try to keep doing that and win the next race and see what happens.”
Earnhardt Jr. is now focusing on more wins during the regular season to help
him secure extra bonus points before the start of the Chase for the Sprint Cup
championship. Eleven races remain before the Chase begins on September 16 at
“I feel like we want to win some more races before the Chase starts,
obviously,” he said. “We’ll think about where we are points-wise when that all
happens after Richmond (September 8). But I don’t want to get too far ahead of
Sunday’s race at Sonoma is the first of two road-course events in the series
this season. Watkins Glen, NY is scheduled for August 12.
Earnhardt Jr. has struggled on the road courses, particularly Sonoma. His best
finish in 12 races there is 11th, which came three times, most recently in
“We have to go to Sonoma and figure out how to get around there and how
to get my first top-ten at that place,” he noted. “We have a lot to accomplish
While Earnhardt Jr. is in a great shape right now to qualify for this year’s
Chase, several drivers, including four-time series champion Jeff Gordon, have
their work cut out if they want to make it into the playoffs.
Gordon, who is Earnhardt Jr.’s teammate at Hendrick Motorsports, is currently
20th in the point standings. He trails 10th-place Brad Keselowski by 83
points. Gordon holds the series record for most wins on road courses with
nine, including five at Sonoma. However, it’s been six years since his last
trip to victory lane at a road course.
“While we haven’t had the same success we once had on road courses, I look
forward to those events,” Gordon said. “The road courses bring a different set
of challenges, and those challenges are fun.”
Gordon has finished ninth or better in the last six races at Sonoma, including
a win in 2006. He placed second there one year ago.
Since he is presently in the top-20 in points, Gordon is in “wild card”
territory, but he desperately needs a win to get back into playoff contention.
“When you’re back where I’m at, you just have to win; it’s the only chance you
have,” he said. “If we finally start to put it together, we’ll make it in. And
if we don’t, we’ll start working on it next year.”
Carl Edwards is 11th in the rankings and trails Keselowski by just two points.
Following Edwards in the standings are: Kyle Busch (12th), Ryan Newman (13th),
Paul Menard (14th), Joey Logano (15th), Kasey Kahne (16th), Marcos Ambrose
(17th), Jamie McMurray (18th) and Juan Pablo Montoya (19th).
Busch, Newman, Logano and Kahne have one victory each so far this season.
Ambrose, who is in his second season with Richard Petty Motorsports, won the
most recent road-course race last August at Watkins Glen. The Australian
claimed his maiden Sprint Cup victory there. He has also performed well at
Sonoma, finishing sixth or better in the past three years there.
“I’m in a great team, and I’m in the best position I’ve ever been in the
sport,” Ambrose said. “Right now as I sit here mid-season, we still feel we
have a chance to make the Chase if we can win some races. We have speed. We
have to convert them into results.”
Ambrose won his first pole in the series last Saturday at Michigan. He did so
in record-setting fashion, turning a lap around the newly repaved two-mile
track at 203.241 mph.
